Maggie has been researching her family tree off and on for several years. Most of her ancestors are true Peoria, Illinois pioneers. All of her 2nd great-grandparents emigrated to the U.S. before 1855; some arrived in the early 1700s and fought in the American Revolution. Most of them lived in Peoria, others in nearby Woodford (1841) and Kickapoo (1843). Maggie grew up in West Peoria.

After graduating from Southern Illinois University, Maggie moved to northern California where she has been ever since. For the last 20 years, until her recent retirement, she worked for a global consortium organizing conferences and events that enable organizations to achieve business objectives through technology standards.

Now that Maggie is retired, she plans to zero in on a few of her elusive early Peoria ancestors who haven’t given up many clues about their past. Some ancestors are talkative, others hide behind a brick wall. Maggie reminds herself that this journey is a marathon, not a sprint.

Pursuing genealogy brick wall solutions gave Maggie that “Aha!” moment when she discovered that her 2nd great-grandfather, Michael Roth, opened a bakery in Peoria in 1837, operated the Fort Clark Coffee House and Bakery (1844), and was a member of the Germania Fire Company until his death in 1853.

Maggie says she is looking forward to engaging with and supporting PCGS as the new webmaster.
