All About the Illinois Mayflower Society
August 8 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT
FreeHear Cary Stone-Greenstein, contributing historian to the Society of Mayflower Descendants in Illinois, a not-for-profit hereditary and lineage organization, talk about how to get started in proving your Mayflower lineage. The Illinois Mayflower Society consists of descendants of the Pilgrims, the 102 English passengers who came to New England from Holland and England aboard the ship Mayflower in 1620. Any person that is able to prove a bloodline to one or more passengers who sailed on the historic voyage to the Americas on the ship Mayflower in 1620 is eligible to apply for membership. The total current membership of the Illinois Society is about 1,100 members. Advanced research techniques, improved genealogy library collections and computerized resources have made it easier to track down your Pilgrim roots.
Featuring: Cary Stone-Greenstein, contributing historian (remote speaker)
Like many, Cary started with genealogy later in life. Just as her insurance career was drawing to a close, her mother had a disabling stroke. When she visited, her mother mostly talked about family, and Cary started trying to keep track of those she mentioned. Before long she was hooked, and Genealogy became “what I do” in retirement. That was 20 years ago.
