The Centennial Farms program honors generations of farmers who have worked to maintain family farms in Illinois. To qualify for Centennial Farm status, an agricultural property must have been owned by the same family of descendants for at least 100 years. More than 1,000 Illinois farms have earned sesquicentennial status, and the department has certified more than 10,000 with centennial designations, recognizing years of consecutive family ownership of a working farm.
