Dunlap Family Collection
Theresa Marie (Dunlap) Day was born on October 5, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois to Clarence Leslie and Eleanor Elizabeth (Hofer) Dunlap, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1966 and married her husband in 1970. Theresa was released from the bonds of this earth on August 28, 2018, at her home in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was survived by her husband and one son.
During her lifetime, Day worked as a secretary for several businesses, but her true passion was genealogy. This is readily apparent in the legacy she left behind: 32 volumes of family history, along with two photo albums and two additional boxes of pictures.
Theresa (Dunlap) Day’s collection of family history was originally donated to the Peoria Historical Society. For help in cataloging the items, PHS reached out to the Peoria County Genealogical Society, with the understanding that this collection would be made public and live on in Peoria County, assisting descendants in their search for family history for years to come.
The collection Theresa left behind contains, not only her own personal research, but also the research of other families seeking a haven for their personal collections. This vast genealogical treasury contains the Dunlap family history—as well as approximately 1,451 other historical surnames within the Dunlap’s long and extensive legacy. Abbott, Adams, Cline, and Hurst are only a few of the names included.
All told, the collection includes people from almost every one of the 50 United States, along with individuals from countries including Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Haiti, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, North Korea, Norway, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Scotland, South Korea, and Slovakia.
PCGS is very pleased to present the Dunlap Collection. We hope you will enjoy this new addition to the Society’s archives, and find many new family members to add to your history.
Thank you to the Peoria Historical Society and the Dunlap/Day family for entrusting PCGS with this amazing collection of family history.
