Moore-Cochran Family Collection
Cleatus Moore donated this collection to the Peoria County Genealogical Society in 2021. Cleatus was a former PCGS board member and recipient of an Honorary Lifetime Membership in 2020 for his generous legacy gift.
In his words, books were “Dedicated to the memory of our parents Richard Alva Moore and Lillian Sadie (Cochran) Moore who struggled to raise five boys while trying to eek out a living on a rocky Ozark farm. Doing the best they could with the knowledge, experience and tools they had to work with. All during a time of the Great Depression with their trials and tribulations they struggled from limited payday to the next. One might question why some decisions were as they were, but they held to moral standards and Faith in God always taking us to the old country church and Sunday school at every opportunity. When they passed on to their reward and we were left with decisions about their worldly possessions, George and I [Cleatus] were struck with many unanswered questions about where certain things came from and to whom they belonged.
We were instilled with a desire to learn more about our heritage and have spent the last twenty five years or more researching, recollecting and documenting our findings. Some would say we became Genealogists while others might call us Family Historians. I like to think it became a venture into history and memories that still glows a fire in our heart to learn more about our heritage and document it for future generations. To our children, our brothers’ children and our cousins and their children, may they learn about their heritage, where they came from and how they got to be who they are. As they read the stories in the book and learn, may a spark encourage them to question, document and fill in the missing links for future generations. May distant cousins and other interested researchers celebrate in finding a clue or missing link some where in these pages, even though it may appear just a bit different than most family histories. It represents many years of dedication and love.” – from The Moore Family History by George T Moore, 2003 Edition
